US soldier dies in Kuwait
Kuwait-USA, Military, 7/14/1998

The US embassy in Kuwait said on Monday that one US soldier died on Sunday during his participation in military exercises in the Kuwaiti desert. The embassy said that preliminary reports stress that "the death is natural."

The embassy added that the body of the soldier will be transferred to the US.

The spokesman for the US embassy in Kuwait declined to answer a question on the location where the soldier died and the sort of training he was conducting. The spokesman added that "more details" will be given later in Washington.

Some 1,500 US troops are positioned in Kuwait. They are changed periodically and are there to take part in maneuvers carried out in the framework of the joint defense pact signed between Kuwait and the US following the Gulf War in 1991.
