Crisis atmosphere in Sudan due to recent explosions
Sudan, Politics, 7/13/1998
A number of Sudanese deputies have agreed upon the importance of constituting a national government in which all the political powers including the Islamic Salvation Front (El-Beshir government) and the followers of the ex-president Gaafer Nomeri can participate to supervise parliamentary elections during the transitional period as a preliminary step toward restoring the democratic life the new constitution has promised.
Meanwhile a prominent member in the Islamic Salvation Front, Nation's Council member Mousa Derar, refused to call for an urgent session of the Nation's Council, saying that drawing up a draft law for political succession requires a long time, in which they can consult with all political and intellectual powers to gather ideas and support.
Derar also said that he is leaving the matter of accusations and the innocence of the participants in the recent explosions in Khartoum to the courts.
Former Prime Minister Sadeq El-Mahdi repeated his accusation that the Khartoum government managed the explosions, saying that these explosions aim at defaming the Sudanese opposition and attaining the sympathy of the Sudanese nation.
