New Jordanian ambassador in Cairo meets Meguid

Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid received the credentials for Jordanian ambassador Tarad al-Fayez as Jordan's permanent delegate at the Arab League.
After the meeting with Abdul Meguid, Fayez said they discussed Arab issues, especially the peace process, and the outcomes of the summit that was recently held in Cairo between Egypt's President Mubarak, Jordan's King Hussein and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
Fayez described the Israeli position as "obstinancy" facing the peace process, and said the peace process is nearing failure, adding that if it fails, it will a negative effect on the whole region. He expressed his hope that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will accept the US initiative, and that there will be a an advancement toward comprehensive peace in the region.
Fayez confirmed the important role of Abdul Meguid and the Arab League, referring to the efforts exerted by Abdul Meguid to support Arab issues.
He also said he discussed several matters with Abdul Meguid, especially the obstacles and dangers obstructing the peace process. "I expressed to him (Abdul Meguid) Jordan's appreciation to the Arab League and the Arab joint work, where Jordan -- under the leadership of King Hussein -- is serving the Arab issues and its people," Fayez said.
Fayez presented his credentials to Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa last Sunday.
Before his arrival in Cairo, Fayez served as Jordan's ambassador in Lebanon, his country's ambassador in Qatar, the secretary-general of the Information Ministry, and the prime minister's advisor for information affairs.
