Jordan to help mediate between Israel and Palestine
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/13/1998

Member of the Israeli Knesset of the Labor Party Yossi Beilin described his talks with the Jordanian crown prince, which lasted for three hours in Amman on Sunday, as good. He added that such bilateral discussions have been held on regular basis.

The talks dealt with relations between Jordan and Israel and the stalled Israel - Palestinian negotiations. Upon returning to Israel, Beilin said in a statement to Israeli radio that Jordan is to mediate between the two sides to settle the obstacles impeding negotiations.

Beilin noted Jordan's desire to improve relations with Israel, especially on bilateral economic cooperation. He said his party's chief, Ehud Barak, will visit Amman tomorrow for talks with Jordan's King Hussein.

Meanwhile, the former Israeli prime minister Shimon Perez will arrive today at Jordan, to deliver a lecture about leadership and a peaceful solution for the region's disputes.
