A Middle Eastern conference on mines in Jordan
Regional-Jordan, Culture, 7/11/1998
The Middle East conference will be hold today in the Jordanian capital Amman concerning the mines injuries and the rehabilitation which is organized by the association of survivors of the mines Gefa in cooperation with the Jordanian Red Cross and the association of the military handicapped under the auspice of Queen Nour.
Jordanian sources said that discussions in the conference will last three days with the participation of international and regional experts to explore physical rehabilitation and social reintegration of the victims into society.
The sources added "the discussions include treating several issues the most prominent of which is the mines problem and its risks in the Middle East." Mines still occupy many areas in different Arab states such as in Egypt and Sudan and the human cost has been high as a result of innocent people falling victim to old mines that have not been deactivated. Funding is a major hurdle to removing the mines.
