Senior Libyan official in Paris
Libya-France, Politics, 7/11/1998

French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine will hold talks in Paris on July 15 with Libyan Minister for Planning Jadallh Azzouz Al-Talhi, it was announced in Paris on Friday.

The two Ministers will discuss mainly bilateral issues, foreign trade, foreign ministry deputy spokesman, Yves Doutriaux, said.

The Libyan official is visiting France at the invitation of Jacques Dondoux, junior minister for foreign trade, with whom he will also hold talks on Economic and trade issues.

French officials said that the Libyan minister would be traveling to Paris via Tunis, as direct flights with Tripoli are not allowed under a United Nations embargo against Libya for its alleged role in the bombing of a Pan Am jet over Scotland in December 1988 and in which 270 people died.

France noted that Libya has cooperated in the investigation phase of the enquiry into the Niger bombing, but a French court decided to put on trial "in absentia" six Libyans for that crime.
