Iranian foreign minister calls for meeting with Amr Moussa
Egypt-Iran, Politics, 7/11/1998

Teheran informed Cairo of its desire to normalize diplomatic relations with Egypt.

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, sent a message to his Egyptian counterpart, Amr Moussa, in which he expressed his readiness to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss developing the relations between the two countries. Kharazi left to Moussa "setting the proper date."

Diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran were severed in 1978 during the Islamic revolution in Iran, then they resumed on the level of missions in March 1991.

Egyptian diplomatic sources said that the foreign minister approved of the Iranian initiative.

Meanwhile, Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid sent a message to Kharazi in which he expressed satisfaction with the Iranian policy in promoting relations with the Arab states and the need to solve the problem of the three disputed islands between Iran and Emirates through peaceful means.
