Syrian President releases state's general budget for 1998

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad has released law no. 2 of 9.7.1998 providing for the state's general budget for 1998, approved by the Syrian People's Assembly on June 18, 1998.
Total sums of the budget are estimated at 237.300 billion Syrian pounds (US $5.3 billion) distributed to 117.700 billion pounds as current general expenditures and 119.600 for investment projects.
Syrian Finance Minister Kahled al-Mayheinin said that appropriations of the state's general budget for 1998 represent an increase of 26.175 billion Syrian pounds in comparison with the figures for 1997, representing an increase of 12.40%.
