Tel Aviv court accepts dancer's complaint against Egyptian ambassador

A Tel Aviv court decided on Wednesday to accept the complaint of an Israeli dancer against the Egyptian ambassador Mohammed Bassiouni in spite of the diplomatic immunity he enjoys. In a case which was originally raised in October 1997.
The judges announced their decision after consulting the Israeli attorney general, saying the immunity of the Egyptian ambassador does not protect him because the incident does not pertain to the ambassador's duties. The dancer demands compensation of $290,000 for Bassiouni's alleged attempt to rape her.
