Mubarak flies into Libya, breaks UN embargo
Egypt-Libya, Politics, 7/9/1998
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak arrived this afternoon at El-Abrak civil airport in Baida city in eastern Libya to check on the health of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi who underwent surgery for a broken leg on Monday night.
Mubarak was received by public leaders in Libya, including the secretary of the general public committee (prime minister), members of the general public committees, army officers and Baida city leaders.
Libyan television broadcast Mubarak's arrival.
Mubarak's flight into Libya was in violation of the UN air embargo imposed on Libya. This would be the third such recent violation of the embargo, as the Organization of African Unity has called for in its last meeting.
