Kuwaiti Parliamentarian calls King Hussein 'king of treason'
Kuwait-Jordan, Politics, 7/9/1998

During discussions held on Tuesday at the Kuwaiti Nation's Council (Parliament) concerning the budget of the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Development, Kuwaiti parliamentarian Muslim al-Barrak described King Hussein as a "king of treason."

Kuwaiti Prime Minister and Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah interfered, calling for not insulting leaders of Arab or foreign states, regardless of their positions, adding that "we will not forget the Jordanian stance against Kuwait."

Sheikh Saad said "I have followed the speech of the deputies, where I feel deep hurt as every citizen does towards Jordan's attitude and its silence before and after the Iraqi invasion" yet "I have the right (as a Prime Minister) to call the deputies to carefully choose their expression."

Al-Barrak was talking about the position adopted by the Jordanian government toward Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion. He noted Jordan's current attempts to obtain loans from the Kuwaiti fund.

The Kuwaiti parliamentarian talked about "money offered to the king of treason," whom he did not identify by name but was a clear reference to the king of Jordan.
