A challenge for Moroccan firms as a result of European association
Morocco, Economics, 7/8/1998
The Morocco-European Union association accord will pose considerable competitiveness challenges to Moroccan enterprises, Morocco's Juncture Center (CMC) said.
The tariffs dismantling, which will be one of the consequences of the association accord, will automatically lead to modifications in the very structure of the tariffs protection of the national economy, CMC executives said at a press conference, Map reported.
CMC is a public body in charge of following up the evolution of Moroccan economy.
The CMC executives said that the European financial assistance to Morocco are above all destined to make sure that Morocco remains an outlet for European products.
Touching on the country's economic growth, they stressed the need to consolidate the industrial base of the country. The durability of a country's competitiveness depends on the public powers' ability to devise a long-term growth strategy and create an environment to encourage enterprises and industries to innovate and improve their efficiency, they said.
