Sudanese television presents those accused of recent explosions
Sudan, Local, 7/8/1998
Sudanese television presented yesterday night interviews with the persons accused in explosions that took place in Khartoum on the night of celebrations of the ninth anniversary of the National Salvation Revolution. Three of the suspects were interviewed while another 21 stood in a line to be shown on television.
The confessions of the accused implicated a number of prominent personalities, at the top of which comes Nation's Party leaders Abdel-Rahman Nugdallah and Sheikh Abdel Mahmoud Abo. Former Sudanese Prime Minister Sadeq al-Mahdi was also implicated.
A report by Reuters said that the leader of the opposition residing in Egypt, Sadeq al-Mahdi, accused the government of fabricating this story to distract from its inability to find the true culprits and discredit the opposition and hinted that it could be the work on inter-government opposition groups.
