Confrontation between police and demonstrators in Algeria

Eyewitnesses said that confrontations and acts of violence took place on Monday between police and demonstrators protestors implementing the "Arabization law" for the second straight day in Bejjaya, the second largest city in Kabayle province.
The eyewitnesses added that small groups of demonstrators threw stones at the police. In retaliation, the policemen launched tear gas.
In Algiers, the capital, Algerian President Liamine Zeroual received a delegation from the Socialist Forces Front. The delegation represents one of the main opposition parties in al-Kabayle province. The province has been the scene of acts of violence following the assassination of popular singer Matoub Lounes on June 25.
