Israel continues shelling against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 7/7/1998

The Israeli occupation forces on Monday morning bombarded the Zahrani river area in south Lebanon with heavy artillery fire. Lebanese security sources said that during Sunday night the Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Sujoud al-Rayhan, Habboush and Wadi al-Hajeir districts.

On Monday, the Lebanese resistance monitored an Israeli on-foot patrol as it took up a position around al-Ahmadieh in the western Bekaa. One resistance group attacked its position. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said it was able to achieve direct hits on the position.

Meanwhile, reports from south Lebanon said that Israeli forces recently arrested three Lahd militia members in the Hasbaya district and another four from al-Guleiya town in Marjyoun district. The arrests were made on charges of being connected with the Lahd militia member Raja Ward, who changed loyalties and went over to the Lebanese authorities. Ward escaped from the occupied part of south Lebanon in June and surrendered himself to the Lebanese authorities.

Later in the day, the Israeli forces renewed their attacks on areas adjacent to the occupied part of South Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery in Muheibib position shelled the towns of Tibnet and Barachit using 155 mm shells.
