Syrian President meets with Pakistani minister, US congressman

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on Sunday met with Pakistani Minister of the Interior Chaudari Shujat Hussein at Damascus' al-Chaab Palace.

Hussein conveyed a message to President al-Assad from Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sherif. Bilateral relations and means of improving them were discussed. The Pakistani minister expressed satisfaction regarding the talks he held in Damascus.

On Saturday, Syrian President Hafez al-Assad at al-Chaab Palace received US House of Representatives member Tom Campbell and former US Senate member Wayne Owens, who is also the director of Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation. Talks dealt with the situation in the stalemated Middle East peace process.

Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa discussed with the US delegation conditions in the region and US efforts to salvage the peace process from its current impasse.
