EU provides Tunisia with 500 million EUROs

The European Union has allotted 500 EUROs (US $550 million) for Tunisia to reform its institutions and modernize its economy. These sums had been allotted to Tunisia after its signed a co-operation accord with the EU in 1995.
The accord was put into actual realization on March 1, 1998 and within 12 years in 2010 permits Tunisia to joint the European - Mediterranean free trade zone. To achieve this objective, Tunisia has to modernize its economy and rehabilitate its institutions. The per capita income in Tunisia is the largest in the Arab Maghreb states, estimated at US $2,200.
