Judgement due in Qatari explosion case on July 17
Qatar, Judicial, 7/2/1998
A case in which six Qataris and one Omani are accused in an explosion set off in front of the Doha Immigration Office has entered its last stage of trial, as the high criminal court headed by judge Abdel Raouf al-Boukae decided to deliver its judgment in the case on July 19.
For the first time, the court interrogated the first accused Fawaz al-Mahdi, who was delivered by the United Arab Emirates to Qatar. Al-Mahdi is also one of the defendants being tried for a failed coup d'etat.
Al-Mahdi said that the charge leveled at him is untrue, as he did not order the accused to put explosives in the car garage in front of the Doha Immigration Office affiliated to the Interior Ministry. He also denied that during his residence in the UAE he gave explosives to the suspects to transport to Qatar.
The lawyer Ali Rached questioned the investigations, saying that they were made after the accused after the case was presented to the court, and this is not right according to the law for criminal procedures.
