Iranian business delegation heads to Iraq
Iraq-Iran, Military, 7/2/1998
A 13-member Iranian business delegation will discuss with Iraqi officials in Baghdad horizons for cooperation in commercial and economic fields.
The Iranian delegation emphasized the importance of enhancing relations in different aspects.
The Iranian delegation headed by the undersecretary of the Trade Ministry, Abdul Hussein Wahagi arrived yesterday in Baghdad to begin a one-week visit.
They have agreed to observe a "friendship" week from July 14 - 21 in Baghdad to display some Iraqi medicine products.
The matter of improving relations comes despite the pending issue of Iraqi war planes sent by Baghdad to Iran to avoid the shelling during the Gulf War. Iran refuses to return the planes. Problems also remain between the two states because of the Iraqi opposition factions supported by Tehran as well as the Iranian opposition factions supported by Baghdad.
Baghdad and Tehran decided last week to reach a quick and final settlement to the issue of prisoners of war as a result of the war between the two countries during 1980 and 1988. Previous statements by the two sides have indicated a desire to resolve all outstanding problems.
