Two British ships visit Syria for the first time since 1948

The British embassy in Damascus announced that two British warships will visit Lattakia port on the Mediterranean coast later this month in the first visit by a British naval vessel in 48 years.
The embassy said the two ships, "Marlboro" and "Fort Victoria," will stay in Lattakia from July 17 to 21 and will receive visitors from the public, reporters and officials. The embassy added that the British ambassador in Damascus, Basil Eastwood, will hold a press conference with chief naval officer in Marlboro on July 7 to discuss the visit.
