Crown prince launches extension works of Thomson plant
Morocco, Business, 7/1/1998
Crown Prince Sidi Mohammed launched Monday in Morocco's economic capital city of Casablanca the extension works of a microelectronics plant operated by the international holding company SGS Thomson Electronics.
The extension works, which necessitate a $300 million investment, will enhance the company's industrial activity in the country and create some 3,000 jobs.
The holding, which has already two plants in Casablanca producing micro-electronics products destined for export, announced recently plans to create its own back-end unit in Morocco.
It specializes in developing, making and marketing micro-electronic devices for wireless communications, heavy-duty applications and use in mobile phones, the military, space and medicine.
The new plant will cover 14,500 square meters.
