Yemeni crisis continues
Yemen, Local, 7/1/1998

Independent sources in Yemen, stated that, "The final outcome for the victims in the clashes and the armed ambushes made by the tribes' men for the army and for the police forces are 52 killed and 214 wounded."

Most of the casualties are from the army, and many cars affiliated to the government were also destroyed, the source said.

The Yemeni security forces prevented a march planned by the parties of the higher coordination council for the opposition in Lahij governorate, and they arrested more than 20 members of these parties, including party leaders, only to release them later.

The government is holding talks through mediators with tribal leaders in order to intervene with tribal youths to calm them down. The government has also urged the Mosques Imams to calm down the rebellious youths by not calling them to violence and terrorism.
