Jordan, Israel discuss coordinating security affairs
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/1/1998

Israeli army radio said that Israeli and Jordanian security bodies are examining the possibility of conducting joint security activities pertaining to safety of tourists in the two countries.

In this context, Jordanian military official Mansour Abu Rashid arrived in Tel Aviv to hold bilateral talks aimed at fostering joint security cooperation and will be meeting with several Israeli security counterparts.

Meanwhile, the Israeli tourism authorities and agencies have started to complain of what they call the treatment by some Jordanians toward Israeli tourists arriving in Jordan, as they refuse to contact and deal with the Israelis.

To deal with this issue, the Jordanian authorities appointed security-men to accompany the Israeli tourists. Reports from Jordan described Israeli tourism to Jordan as of no economic benefit, adding that many violations of Jordanian law have been carried out by the Israeli tourists in Jordan such as "stealing ancient artifact and smuggling them to Israel."
