Moussa: Syrian, Jordanian disputes do not affect plenary Arab summit
Regional, Politics, 6/27/1998
Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa has said that disputes between Syria and Jordan may affect a summit by the so called "Cordon states" (Arab countries bordering Israel and in a state of war with it), adding such disputes would not affect a plenary Arab summit.
In a statement to the Egyptian magazine al-Musawer published today, Moussa added that such disputes were withstanding between the two countries when a pan Arab summit was held in 1996. Replying to a question on whether Egypt has succeeded in alleviating tensions between Syria and Turkey, Moussa said Egypt "and others have been successful in bringing calm to the relations between the two countries."
Moussa added that the Syrian deputy foreign minister will visit Ankara during this week, and a Turkish minister recently visited Damascus. He expressed hopes that dialogue would eliminate tension between the two countries.
