Moussa to visit the US in July
Egypt-USA, Politics, 6/27/1998

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa will begin a four-day visit to the United Sates of America on July 9, during which he will meet with US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Moussa will also head his country's delegation to meetings which will undertake US - Egyptian strategic talks.

Moussa met with the US ambassador to Cairo, Daniel Kurtzer, on Thursday to discuss the program of Moussa's visit to Washington, and the subjects to be addressed in the talks, which come within the framework of rectifying the atmospheres in relations between the two sides toward regional issues such as Libya, Iraq, Sudan and the Middle East peace process.

An Egyptian diplomatic source said the Egyptian - American talks provide a chance to discuss the main issues and examine the strategic base of relations, pointing out that the two sides have communicated during the three last months to reach agreements on the subjects that they will discuss and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The source added that the talks' agenda will include the peace process, Gulf security, regional security in the Middle East, US security in the Middle East, and the US policy towards Libya. The two sides will discuss the ratification of periodic meetings between foreign ministers every six months.

During his visit, Moussa will meet with members of the US Congress and officials in the US administration to inform them on Arab and Egyptian views, especially concerning the peace process and the Israeli government's efforts to Judaize and expand Jerusalem.
