Morocco, Economics, 6/26/1998
Morocco will be endowed shortly with a modern customs code meeting the expectations of businessmen and exporters, Moroccan Finance Minister Fathallah Oualalou said.
Addressing on Thursday the closing session of the World Customs Organization held in Marrakesh June 22-25, the Moroccan minister said the draft code will sustain Morocco's economic overture and will seek to simplify customs administrative procedures on mainly the goods clearance track. He also affirmed that the new law will be in harmony with international customs regulations and will ensure a better struggle against fraud, Map reported.
During its three-day meeting, the World Customs Organization reviewed several issues related to future strategies to ensure a better commercial flow and contribute to the development and liberalization of international trade.
Participants called for the modernization of customs management, the unification of customs clearance procedures, the use of high-tech detection equipment and consolidation of cooperation for the struggle against fraud.
Participants also elected French Michel Danet as the new secretary-general of the World Customs Organization for a 5-year term.
