Communications to determine the date of Bashir's visit to Cairo continue
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 6/24/1998

Abdul Wahab Othman, the Sudanese minister of economy and finance, said that communications are ongoing between Cairo and Khartoum to determine the date of the anticipated visit of to Egypt in light of the positive developments in Egyptian - Sudanese relations.

The trip by Sudanese President Omar Hasan al-Bashir have been promised for a long time and has not materialized, as Egypt and Sudan tried to find an agreement that would allow the return of Egyptian property confiscated by Sudan, which has caused friction between the two states along with issues related to terrorism.

The Sudanese official, currently visiting Doha (Qatar) to head his country's delegation in the meetings of the Sudanese - Qatari committee which started its works yesterday, said there are no barriers or problems in economic relationships with Egypt.

Trade doors were opened between the two countries, he said, especially within the visit paid by the Sudanese minister of trade to Cairo months ago heading a delegation of more than 25 Sudanese businessmen. He stated that in spite of the existence of commercial agreement between the two countries, neither prefers to resort to protocols and agreements, especially within adopting the economical and commercial liberalization programs.

Othman said that his country is open to Egyptian investors and businessmen, emphasizing that they will have priority in any investment projects, as Egypt is the closest country to Sudan.
