OIC FM's to convene emergency session
Regional-Iran, Politics, 6/23/1998
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi arrived in Jeddah today for a short visit carrying a message from Iranian President Muhammad Khatami to King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz.
An official Saudi source said that Iran has proposed convening a meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) states' foreign ministers in Tehran in order to discuss means of challenging Israeli actions aimed at Judaizing occupied Jerusalem.
In Tehran, Iranian President Muhammad Khatami, who is also the current chairman of the OIC, called for an emergency meeting for the foreign ministers of the OIC member states to discuss dimensions and consequences of the recent Israeli decision to expand the circle of its occupation of the city and to draw the proper strategy to face this serious development.
Khatami asked the OIC's secretary-general to follow up on the convening of such a meeting as soon as possible. In a message addressed to leaders of the Islamic countries, belonging to the OIC, the Iranian president said that the Israeli decision to expand the volume of its occupation to Beit al-Maqdis and changing the demographic structure of Jerusalem has raised the rage of the Islamic world against the expansionist policy of this entity and its flagrant violations of international law and UN resolutions.
