Cooperation protocol between Algiers and Turkey
Algeria-Turkey, Politics, 6/23/1998

The Algerian daily al-Watan on Monday said that a bomb planted by extremists Islamists was exploded and caused damage to gas pipelines between Hasi al-Ramal and the capital Algiers' gas field.

Meanwhile, the Turkish news agency Anatolia said that the governments of Turkey and Algeria on Monday signed in Ankara a protocol on cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries cosigned by Algerian foreign minister Ahmad Attaf and his Turkish counterpart Ismael Cem. Cem told reporters, "Turkey and Algeria will give new impetus to their relations and are keen to accelerate these relations and to achieve new strides in the economic, social and political fields."

Later in the day, Turkish President Suleyman Demirel met with the Algerian FM and told him that Turkey wishes to develop relations with Algeria in all domains. The Algerian FM arrived in Ankara on Sunday in a four-day official visit.
