Kuwaiti government promises parliament it will improve economy
Kuwait, Politics, 6/23/1998

The Kuwaiti government on Monday promised members of the Nation's Council (parliament) that it would propose measures for dealing with the economic conditions in the country following the recent deterioration in oil prices, which have resulted in a deficit of 1.7 billion Kuwaiti dinars in the Kuwaiti budget.

A reconciliation meeting was held between the ministerial committee for coordination, presided over the Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad, Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Ahmad al-Sadoun and parliamentary deputies, MENA reported.

It is the first meeting of its kind following the recent dispute between the parliament and the government. Parliament secretary Bader al-Jeian said it had been agreed to hold a weekly coordination meeting, adding that the government will make proposals to improve economic conditions.
