Lebanon accuses Israel of Beirut bomb blast, fighting continues

Israeli occupation forces on Monday continued attacks in south Lebanon, while Lebanese resistance forces attacked with rockets an Israeli position in Roum, according to a resistance statement.

On Monday afternoon, Lebanese resistance fighters attacked the occupation position in al-Hardoun hill, using rockets and machine-gun fire. Direct hits were scored. A statement by the resistance groups announced the death of Bilal Ahmad Zatour on Sunday "while carrying out his military duty."

Israeli troops on Monday bombarded several towns and villages in the Western sector of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said that Israeli heavy artillery positioned in al-Hardoun, Balat, Muhibeib bombarded the towns and villages of Zibqin, Majdal Zoun, Kafra, Yater, Haris, Mereimin valley, Jin Sweid and al-Dub valley. The bombardment was accompanied by mock raids by Israeli warplanes and helicopters over the western and central sectors and al-Nabatieh and al-Tuffah districts.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Foreign Minister Fares Boueiz said on Monday that Israel was behind the explosion of grenades near the US embassy in Beirut on Sunday. In a press conference he held in Beirut Monday the Lebanese FM added: "The missiles which targeted the surroundings of the US embassy in Beirut were but a political message that can come only from Israel aiming at diverting attention from its settlement expansionist policy in occupied Jerusalem and its practices toward the Middle East peace process."

Boueiz added that the incident of explosions near the US embassy came in reaction to Lebanon's refusal of the Israeli conditional proposals to implement UN resolution 425. Lebanese Deputy Premier and Minister of the Interior Michael Murr that Lebanon suspects Israel to have been involved in the recent security incidents that have taken place in Lebanon and caused the death of two persons.

In a televised statement to Lebanese television on Monday, he added, "We have only doubts in Israel which seeks to create disorder and confusion in Lebanon."
