Moratinos explained the goals of his efforts and current tour, stressing EU's concern over the peace process and its determination to keep making efforts on the basis of Madrid formula. The Syrian president reiterated Syria's commitment to just and comprehensive peace, stressing the unity of the Syrian and Lebanese tracks and welcoming an effective European role in the Middle East peace process.

Later, the Syrian Progressive National Front held a meeting chaired by Syrian Vice-President Zuheir Masharqa. Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa' spoke about latest political developments on the Arab, regional and international levels. The PNF members discussed the latest political developments, foremost of which being the current stalemate of the peace process, attributed to Israeli policy.
