Bomb kills three women in Algeria, a GIA leader surrenders

The Armed Islamic Group (GIA) in Algeria on Friday committed a new massacre that claimed the life of 15 citizens, whereas 9 were reported as wounded in al-Karama district of Tseimilit province.

Algerian dailies published on Sunday said that a bomb was exploded in al-Zuberiyah graveyard in Medea province, resulting in killing three women and wounding others. The Algerian al-Chaab daily said that Algerian security forces killed 52 gunmen during mopping-up operations carried out in the woods of Asqour and Meizab in Bani Sanous district of Telmesan province.

Al-Aseel daily said that one GIA leader, Rashid Qarqar, surrendered to security forces in al-Ahras market.

Meanwhile, Qatar and Algeria on Sunday signed the minutes of the meeting of the Algerian - Qatari higher ministerial committee on increasing economic cooperation and investment between the two countries. On the Qatari side, the minutes were signed by Finance, Trade and Economy Minister Youssef Hussein Kamal and the Algerian side by Finance Minister Abdul Karim Harshawi.

Kamal said the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in fields of education, higher education, health, judicial affairs, communications and transport. He added that in the next phase, an agreement on preventing double-taxation will be signed while a Qatari - Algerian business center will be established to carry out joint ventures in the favor of the two countries.
