Regional-Tunisia, Politics, 6/20/1998
The Arab officials in charge of immigration and passports will start their eighth conference in Tunis on Monday to discuss preventing forgery in travel documents and papers, it was officially announced in Tunis on Friday.
A statement by the Tunis-based Secretariat-General of the Arab interior council said during the one-day meeting that the Arab officials would discus the role of fingerprints in countering forgery of official documents, including passports, Map reported.
The statement pointed out a dramatic increase in official document forgery crimes, which have become a threat to the social and economic infrastructure of several states.
The participants would "make use of the development observed in the fingerprint science that became an incisive weapon to counter forgery," according to the statement.
During their meeting, held once every two years, the statement said the officials would review Arab citizens' immigration abroad and its security repercussions.
