Adel Oseiran dies at 93

Prominent Lebanese political figure and former parliament Speaker Adel Oseiran died on Thursday at 93 at Hammoud's Hospital in Sidon. Oseiran repeatedly assumed the post of Parliament speaker as well as several ministerial posts.
He started his parliamentary career in 1943 and was appointed as a minister for the first time following Lebanon's independence in the government of Riad al-Sulh. In the same year he was detained by French mandate and held in Rashayya castle together with other detained Lebanese nationalists in the independence government.
Oseiran is survived by seven children including Parliamentarian Ali Oseiran. His funeral was held on Friday in an official ceremony in Sidon.
