Important decisions after signing the new Sudanese constitutional
Sudan, Politics, 6/20/1998

The deputy chairman of the Sudanese National Council (the parliament), Abdul Aziz Shedo, said that the signing of the new constitution will be accompanied by important decisions concerning public liberties, detainees and confiscated properties.

He added, "Imprisonment, detention and the confiscation decisions were issued as per the second constitutional decree which will be 'canceled' at the signing of the new constitution."

A member of the leading council for the state's prohibited party, engineer Adam Madio, asked the government to release the political detainees, stop the repeated summons, for politicians to give back confiscated properties, and to cancel the restricting rules for liberties in order to prove to the opposition of its seriousness in matching words with deeds.

He also emphasized the importance of the pluralistic political participation in making a draft law for the anticipated political parties.

Madio said that the political forces did not participate in making the constitution that was presented for the referendum, and it was only the authorities who formed it.

Shedo stated that the anticipated law on the formation of political parties will be presented to the political forces about which they will express their point of view.
