Yemen-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 6/20/1998
The Yemeni - Saudi technical and legal joint committee held a series of meetings in Sanaa on Wednesday and Friday. Yemeni Foreign Ministry undersecretary Ghaleb Gamil, said the meetings are working on border demarcation between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
The committees' meeting in Sanaa continued work started in the meetings it held a week earlier in Saudi Arabia for discussing subjects relating to the specification of the remaining borders.
Yemeni opposition newspapers said that the meetings failed, while in El-Washdawy newspaper, the speaker of the El-Wehdowy El-Nasery Yemen Assembly reported that there is a state of tension on the borders between the two countries. The Socialist Party newspaper, Al-Thawra reported on Thursday that Saudi and Yemeni troops exchanged gunfire in a disputed border area. The paper added that during the two last days, fighting erupted near al-Malaheit district in Sa'dah province, reporting that several military vehicles were destroyed in the fighting between the two sides.
