Strategic talks between Cairo and Washington to begin in mid-July

The U.S. ambassador in Cairo, Daniel Kurtzer, announced that the first session of strategic talks between Egypt and the U.S. will begin in mid-July with the participation of economic and political experts.
Kurtzer said that the goal of the talks is to establish a special relationship between Egypt and the U.S. that would contribute to reconciling the points of view between the two sides about a number of strategic issues in the Middle East and to reach a political and economic understanding about these issues.
The U.S. ambassador described Egypt as an important partner for the U.S. in the region.
The U.S. wants to separate Egyptian - U.S. relations from the peace negotiations between Arab states and Israel some have said.
