Jordan criticizes Israel on Lebanon and Syria
Jordan, Politics, 6/17/1998
Jordan's Foreign Minister Jawad al-Anani on Monday stressed Jordan's support for the Lebanese position and the need for Israel's unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon according to UN resolutions 425 and 426.
Al-Anani strongly criticized Israel, described its policy as "unacceptable" and accused it of undermining the peace process. He called upon the Israeli government to resume peace talks with "our brothers in Syria" from they point at which they broke off under the previous Israeli government. He added that the Syrian government has announced its readiness to negotiate with the current Israeli government, a matter which proves Syria's commitment to the peace process.
Petra quoted al-Anani as saying during a meeting with an Australian parliamentary delegation in Amman that " Justifications given by Netanyahu to evade the peace process are not acceptable, especially his refusal to accept the US proposals concerning the second stage of redeployment in the West Bank."
The Jordanian minister added that the ''justification made by the Israeli government to escape the peace process indicates bad intentions towards this process."
