Sheikh al-Islam Iran's ambassador to Syria

An Iranian diplomatic source said on Tuesday that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Sheikh al-Islam was appointed as Iran's new ambassador to Syria, succeeding Muhammad Hassan Akhtari who had worked in Damascus since 1986. The source added that Akhtari will be assigned to work for the international affairs department at the office of Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
