Iraqi Shiite Moslems held ceremony in Jordan
Jordan-Iraq, Religion, 6/17/1998
Iraqi Shiite Moslems held ceremonies in the southern Jordanian city of Mazar where the corpse of Jafar Tayyar was buried. Shiites attended celebrations to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Jafar, one of the great Moslem Imams.
Jordan's authorities provided the Iraqis with the necessary requirements and services during their celebrations, which are prohibited in Iraq.
Jordanian high officials in Mazar governorate welcomed the mass, saying that the ceremony provides Jordan's national income with more hard currency and attracts more tourists to the area.
