Tunisia loses opener to England
Tunisia, Sports, 6/16/1998
After a 20-year absence from the World Cup, Tunisia lost Monday to England 0-2 in a group G opener.
The Tunisians who resisted to the successive English attacks thanks mainly to the excellent saves of their keeper, Shoukri El-Ouer, succumbed three minutes before the interval when Alan Shearer scored for England.
While everybody was expecting a Tunisian wake-up, the English continued attacking until the 89th minute when Paul Scholes, called to replace paramount star Gazza Gascogne, netted a fine goal from a 25-meter shot, Map reported.
Tunisia will play its second match against Colombia next Monday, while England will play Romania.
Romania defeated Colombia 1-0 in the same group.
