High joint committee established between Jordan and Morocco
Jordan-Morocco, Politics, 6/16/1998

Jordan and Morocco signed an agreement to establish a higher joint committee which aims at boosting relations between the two Arab nations.

The agreement was signed in Rabat, Morocco, by Jordan's visiting Prime Minister Abdul-Salam Majali and his Moroccan counterpart Abderrahmane Youssoufi.

"Jordan views the setting up of a joint Arab committee as part of the common Arab action," Majali said. He expressed his country's appreciation of efforts being made by the US and other countries to revive the Middle East peace process.

"Jordan will pursue its efforts to lift sanctions imposed on both Iraqi and Libyan peoples," he stated.

The Moroccan premier invited the two countries private sectors to play their part in fostering partnership to benefit from the joint business opportunities expected from the projected free trade area.

Youssoufi said the consolidation of economic integration and promotion of cooperation between Morocco and Jordan in all sectors will enable the two Arab states to defend their interests in this rapidly changing global market, Map reported.

Several agreements are to be signed today, including one providing for the establishment of a free trade zone between Jordan and Morocco.
