Four civilians slaughtered by gunmen in Algeria
Algeria, Military, 6/15/1998

The Algerian daily al-Khabar reported on Sunday that an armed group on Saturday night slaughtered four citizens near Khmeisi town in Tepaza province.

The paper added that one member of the Armed Islamic Group who recently surrendered to the Algerian security sources unveiled the collapse of the GIA. He stated the vast mopping-up operations carried out by the security forces in al-Hatitiba district was a painful strike that foiled plans laid by the GIA.

Meanwhile, Algeria and the UN Industrial Development Organization UNIDO on Sunday signed a cooperation protocol. The protocol is intended to rehabilitate the national industrial sector in the country, improve technological services and small and medium industries, strengthen the private industrial sector and carry out development projects in the sectors of industry and energy.

UNIDO's secretary general is currently visiting Algiers.
