Turkey not to sabotage ties with Israel for the sake of Arabs
Jordan-Turkey, Military, 6/15/1998
French "Top Urgent" news bulletin said that Turkey and Jordan have signed a military cooperation agreement aimed at cooperation in training pilots. The agreement falls in the course of materializing tripartite cooperation including Israel.
The bulletin added that the agreement was signed during a visit made in early June by Turkish Air Force Chief of Staff Elhan Keleek to Amman. The bulletin added that the agreement includes modernizing Jordanian F-16 warplanes in Turkey and delivering two C-135 cargo planes made in Turkey under Spanish license. This agreement also establishes the basis of boarder cooperation between Israel, Turkey and Jordan to train pilots in the field of electronic warfare.
In statements to Turkish TV stations last Saturday night, Turkey's Foreign Minister Ismael Cem said that Ankara would not sabotage ties with Israel for the sake of developing relations with Arab countries. He also described his country's relations with Jordan as "distinguished and very good."
Turkey's relations with Israel and Jordan were boosted in the aftermath of military agreements reached between the three sides and military maneuvers recently carried out between them. Meanwhile, Turkey and Israel made a joint agreement to manufacture Israeli "arrow" missiles in Turkey, according to an accord conducted six months earlier.
