Morocco, Business, 6/12/1998

Morocco's agribusiness accounts for 22% of the country's overall processing industry and yields about $1.6 billion in value added, Moroccan agriculture minister Habib Malki said.

Speaking at a meeting held lately here on the development of agribusiness private enterprises, the Moroccan minister said the sector employs 100,000 persons and contributes one third value-added in the processing industries.

He also affirmed that agribusiness, which posts an average of $680 million turnover, represents 20% of Morocco's overall industrial exportats, Map reported.

The Moroccan minister said he regretted that all the potentials of this sector are not fully exploited as only 10% of its Arable land capacities and 50% of its dairy productions are currently processed.

Morocco, he said, should place a great importance on the development of agribusiness which plays a vital role in Morocco's economy.
