Gaddafi approves African summit's resolutions to partially lift ban
Libya-North Africa, Politics, 6/12/1998
Colonel Moammar Gaddafi, leader of the Libyan revolution, praised the decision of the Organization of African Unity summit in Burkina Faso of not abiding by the air embargo imposed upon Libya.
In his meeting with political organizations in North African countries, Gaddafi called on the Arab states yesterday not to abide by the air embargo against Libya, stating that this stance would have been appropriate since the issuing of the Security Council resolution.
At the same time, the U.S. strongly attacked the African summit resolution to partially lift the embargo from Libya, with U.S. official sources describing the resolution as hampering the endeavors to urge the Libyan government to extradite the suspects Lockerbie plane bombing.
