Eleven shot to death in Amman
Jordan, Local, 6/12/1998
Eleven persons, including nine from one family, were found shot to death early this morning. The crime took place in Um-Hairan area south of Jordanian capital, Amman, 36 hours before it was discovered.
The dead bodies were found thrown onto the ground in an underground room. Ten of the corpses were wrapped in carpets; the last one, the body of a woman, was left unveiled.
Relatives of the victims told ArabicNews.com this morning that the perpetrator closed the windows with bricks and then shot his gun at the victims.
"The victims were shot to death with a gun," Police sources confirmed.
General Prosecutor of the Higher Court of Crimes Basim Momini, Director of Police of the Capital Lieutenant General Hisham Nusour, two medical examiners and other officials rushed into the site.
The dead bodies were transferred to the National Center for Medical Jurisprudence to start autopsies. Evidence was collected and security forces began work to unveil the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Jordan in the past few months has witnessed a series of such crimes that shocked the nation. Public opinion has been divided into those who believed that there were political motives behind the crimes others who did not see underlying political motives.
