Some 24 killed in Algeria

The Algerian dailies on Wednesday said that some 24 people including 12 national members in the self-defense groups were killed in Algeria between last Sunday and Tuesday.

The Algerian dailies al-Watan and al-Khabar said that six of the "nationals" were killed on Monday in Ein Beseim near al-Bouira, 90 km southeast of the capital Algiers in a bomb explosion when their car passed by.

Le Matin added that "four nationals" were killed on Sunday in a bomb explosion targeting their patrol in Janzit in Steif Province to the east, while "the political world" daily said that "two nationals" were killed on Tuesday in an ambush installed by the armed group in Tesmisleit district. Sawt al-Ahrar daily said that two civilians were killed, and two others were killed on Tuesday when an armed group fired their car in Tesmisleit.

Several Algerian dailies said that one gunman was killed on Tuesday in the capital Algiers by the policemen fires after being chased. Al-Aseel daily said that six Islamists -- including the right hand of Armed Islamic Group leader Antar al-Zawabri, better known as Hayati -- were killed on Monday night in Bufarik, 25 km to south of the capital at the hands of the Algerian security forces.

Al-Khabar added that other three Islamists were killed on Tuesday in Bu Merdas district, 50 km, east of the capital. According to Algerian dailies, some 96 persons, including at least 59 Islamists have been killed in Algeria since last Thursday.
