Three UN humanitarian employees killed in Khartoum
Sudan, Military, 6/11/1998
A statement released by the UN bureau in Khartoum announced the killing of three Sudanese citizens recruited by two humanitarian organizations in Khartoum in an attack claimed by the Sudanese Ministry of Social Planning to have been made by fighters from the Sudanese People's Liberation Army.
The statement added that two employees in the World Food Program and a third working for the Sudanese Red Crescent Society were killed on Tuesday while on a mission to study citizens' needs in the al-Nouba mountains.
At first, the Sudanese Ministry of Social Planning said the third killed person was working in the International Red Cross, adding that other four people were killed in an attack launched by "outlaw elements" (in remarks to the Southern rebels), just 60 km northeast of Kadouqli, the capital of South Kardafan province.
